Data Sample 4 - Documentary Data: Preliminary analysis grounded in the data 

 

 

Whilst coding this data, we were surprised to see how much of it seemed to generate data relating to potential MAPs within the EoR. It was also notable that, by this stage (having already coded a range of data in a more general, open way)... more specific elements of the EoR Model and Framework were beginning to creep in, such that links between the content of this document and their potential categorisation as part of the EoR model began to leap out. On reflection, it is perhaps less surprising that this particular document should so strongly reflect the EoR Model and Framework given that it is a Handbook which is designed to contextualise the learning experience for learners, the learning community and other stakeholders. This example suggests, then, that this kind of material (guides, handbooks, prospectuses, etc.) may provide a particularly rich source of contextualising data in the initial stages of mapping the EoR Model to the learner's context. At the same time, it might be best not to START with such materials lest they cause the design team to focus on particular things and, in so doing, to miss the more unexpected aspects of the learner's learning context. This, in turn, suggests that the evolution of an effective EoR Model is framed by access to and the unravelling of a wide range and variety of contextual layers, moving back and forth between the 'most open' to some that are more focused in an iterative, recursive process.

 

With these things in mind, we might come up with a new table of Themes and Examples, as follows:
